The Queen returns; Korean Air resumes 747-8i operations at Auckland Airport
Alongside other service increases for the summer schedule today on the 28th of October was Korean's reintroduction of the 747-8i to Auckland services after a relatively quiet 2018 summer period of 777-300ER operations by the airline.
HL7632 inaugurated the flights for this season, operating Korean flight 130 and 129 in and out of Auckland at 8:02AM and 10:35AM respectively, while Atlas-operated QF7552 would arrive later in the day as the second 747-8 arrival of the day.
Just four months prior in July 2019, Korean Air changed their winter season aircraft to 787-9s from the previously operated 777-200ERs. Notably, both the 747-8i and 787-9 have variations of the same engine, the 747 obviously having two more.
Korean Air is currently the only regularly scheduled passenger 747 operator to Auckland, although Qantas occasionally up-gauges trans-tasman flights to 747-400ERs.
