Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte arrives at Auckland Airport
The Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte, arrived in Auckland at 11:50AM today on board 737-700BBJ PH-GOV as KLM9931. This is the first time the Dutch PM has visited the country.
PH-GOV is operated by KLM for the Dutch Government, the airline covering staffing as well as maintenance alongside KLM's existing fleet of 14 737-700s. The 737 was delivered in April last year, replacing the government's previously operated Fokker 70, which carried the Dutch royals to Auckland Airport in 2016.
Due to its recent build date, the aircraft doesn't retain a Boeing customer code, unlike many existing 737BBJs.
Mark Rutte disembarked the aircraft at Gate 4 in the international terminal, the 737 being towed to the Swissport apron near the regional terminal shortly afterwards, where the aircraft will remain until a scheduled departure at 11AM tomorrow as KLM9931 to Sydney.
I met with one of the friendly captains at the Swissport apron, who explained to me how all the crew normally fly 737-700s in the Netherlands, while also being tasked on the odd government flight like this one.
